In April 1966 John Lennon was on the set of the film ‘How I Won The War’ in Almeria, Spain, in which he played Private Gripweed directed by Richard Lester, who also made A Hard Day’s Night and Help! with the Beatles.
A Hard Day’s Night is the first film starring the Beatles. It was directed by Richard Lester in 1964. The film was made in the style of a mockumentary, describing a couple of days in the lives of the group during the height of Beatlemania.
Some months ago (May 2012) a rare photo of the Beatles walking in the opposite direction from the original album cover on Abbey Road was put up for auction.
The photo on the sleeve of Abbey Road album was taken by photographer Iain McMillan on August 8, 1969. He had 10 minutes to do the shoot and he took six photographs of the Beatles walking backwards and forwards across the zebra crossing.
The story of two photo sessions and the different album covers based on. The photo session took place at the EMI house in Manchester Square, London around mid-February 1963.
Robert Whitaker was the Beatles’ official documenter at the height of Beatlemania between 1964 and 1966. A collection of Whitaker’s photos has been recently presented in a new book, With the Beatles published by LIFE Books.
